Critical Essay Writing is about meticulous evaluation and judgment of chosen topics. Critical essays show the writer's attitude towards the evaluated material which may not necessarily mean opposition to existing points of view or direct disagreement with the author's thinking. Just like other types of essays, critical essays should be written in an unbiased and emotionally uncharged tone. They should objectively evaluate a chosen piece of literature, books or articles and demonstrate the writer's knowledge of the material, professional writing style and smooth presentation of facts.

Stalin and the USSR The career of Stalin was rather fast and straight-forward. In 1922 was elected the general secretary of the central committee of the All-Russian communist-Bolshevik party. His rude force and approaches attracted many and Stalin got additional support from the masses. His approach to politics was so forceful that even dying Lenin (the founding father of soviet communism-Leninism) in his last writing wrote about the need to remove rude Stalin from power. The document was rejected and Stalin continue to build his career to the most powerful post in the Soviet Union (Radzinsky, 79).

Reflection Essay

A goal of reflection essay is to reflect a certain personal experience or event of the author. An important condition for writing this type of essay is that the writer must have a particular personal experience and have his very own perception of it. Unlike many other essay types the purpose of the reflection essay is to explore own ideas and requires some philosophical thinking, though often no clear statements or conclusions are made in the essay.

Whenever a person has to write a reflection essay, he or she must be ready to think independently on a certain theme or topic. Writing reflective essays develops critical thinking skills, because an author has to learn some idea or topic and then apply his own experiences to the idea in order to make personal conclusions. The reflection essay may be treated as opportunity for a student or a writer for free development of personal ideas and their comprehensive trial.

Topic of the reflection essay must be acute enough to raise interest in the audience and create a variety of rhetoric questions. The writer must choose several ideas or subtopics and keep coherence throughout the narration, using transitional paragraphs between different ideas or subtopics. If a writer presents his ideas in an interesting manner with consideration of the target audience the success of the essay is guaranteed. The reader must be involved into the story by means of extraordinary details utilization and interesting introduction.

As the majority of essay types, the reflective essay consists of introduction, body, and conclusion. Because this essay is for the most narrative, the introduction should not be necessarily of the same kind as in persuasive or expository essays. However, the same principles of writing are applied here. The reflective essay must introduce a particular event in a definite setting with principal characters. Body of the essay contains the actual narrative part of the reflection. All the events with specific details are recreated and all the significance of event should be made clear in this part. Finally, the conclusion reflects the outcomes of the events or incidents and presents the feelings of the writer.

Reflective essays has several standards that must be followed in order to prepare a successful essay. It should focus on a well-defined and clear incident, which may consist of number of related incidents. An adequate part of background information should be provided. Narration elements such as plot, conflict, characters, and setting must be utilized. When organizing the events it is better to keep chronological order in order to keep the events clear. When its appropriate, some dialogues may be used in the essay, with utilization of an appropriate word choice. The incident must be devoted an appropriate level of significance to interest the reader. Finally, it is important to keep consistency when defending the point of view.
Whatever the topic of the reflection essay is, attention must be paid to the final result: what effect must the essay have on readers? How does this essay teach the target audience?
